Felinoids
by Leonidas Size: Males average 2.25-3.25m; females generally slightly smaller. Sensation: Hearing by tympanic membranes on either side of the skull. Sight from infrared to ultraviolet frequencies, resolution approx. 10 times that of humans. Smell and taste extremely sensitive. Tactile senses across all surfaces. Lifecycle: Born helpless, and nurtured until self-tending. Sexual maturity from approx. age 1 year, ending in females approx. age 20 years. Lifespan naturally approx. 35 years, but greatly increased by medical and genetic technology. Reproduction: Haploid male and female germ cells produce an embryo (usually a single one), which is gestated within the female for twelve months before live birth. Respiration: Oxygen inspiration, CO2 and Water Vapor expiration. Aliment: Wide-ranging, with complex requirements of nutrients, preferably balanced between protein and carbohydrate intake. Cognition: Very high in both genders, with slight differences. Thermality: Homoiothermic at 102.5°F. Distress outside the 32-110°F range; death from extended exposure outside the 10-140°F range. Technology: Extensive in all areas. Communication: Audible, by sound produced in the throat, mouth, and nose from air expelled by the lungs, supplemented by highly expressive body language. Culture: Diverse forms of society, family, and art. Strong affections for music and some forms of theater. Religion: Judeo-Christianity, primarily Orange Bible Protestantism. Society: Genetically engineered by normal humans as superhuman soldiers; a combination of hunting cat, gorilla, and human. All felinoids are required to serve in the military until age 20, after which they are given the option to re-enlist or leave the system. Highly militaristic, generally easily swayed by charismatic leaders. As a result of engineering, their predatory instincts have been honed and they are highly aggressive. Most are medicated to prevent random acts of violence. Individual felinoids can have widely varying personalities, just as regular humans.
