 Eiir

Size: 1.5m tall, 3-4m long.
Sensation: Hearing and magnetic-field senses are contained in bulbous frontal lobes. Tactile senses across all surfaces, but highly developed at the tips of their six limbs.
Lifecycle: 3 months wet pupation, 4 years maturation, 40-60 years reproductive adulthood
Reproduction: Eiir reproduce singly, with one adult producing a single external pupa every 7.5 years, which is kept moist while it feeds on a yolk, and then is "born" with full self-capacity.
Respiration: Oxygen inspiration, CO2 and Water Vapor expiration.
Aliment: Mostly algae and simple sea-greens, ground to pulp in a double-radula mouth.
Cognition: Very high.
Thermality: Poikilothermic, but preferring ambience between 130° and 160°F.
Technology: Interstellar travel by near-lightspeed vessels. High capacity for subatomic technologies. Moderate applications of biological technologies, but modest ability in genetic manipulation.
Communication: Audible, by sounds generated from the mouth.
Culture: Poetry and music highly developed. Audio/magnetic artwork often in vogue.
Religion(s): None; the concept is unknown to the Eiir, making it extremely difficult for them to distinguish between other cultures' myths and entertainment, and their religions.
Society: All Eiir pledge life and limb to a Communal, whose goal it is to conform to the social norm with as little differentiation as possible; however, individually, within the Communal, every citizen pursues prosperity and promotion over his comrades, resorting to all manner of intrigue and the occasional crime. Little value is placed in material goods; prestige comes primarily from status within the Communal, with highly diverse castes (slave, peasant, mercanter, technoler, cognitor, administrator, noble, royal -- not necessarily in ascending order). Each Communal is sovereign, and to a high degree cooperates with its neighbors, often forming mutual-support alliance called Coherences, which in the main promote trade between the Communals but can also produce mutual military support in times of conflict.
