WRITING SAMPLE -- The RPG writing sample is mandatory. Applications submitted without the writing sample will not be processed. This sample will be checked for quality and style. While grammar and spelling are important, they will not weigh heavily on consideration of your admittance into The LATTICE. Play in Mystery & Magic Web Worlds takes place as a continuing storyline, which is written and created by you and the other players. Your ability to describe actions and situations clearly, your style of responding to a situation, and the ability to "think on your feet" and pick up where another player's post leaves off are indispensible.
Writing should generally be third-person present tense, from the point of view of your character.
You have three options for submitting a writing sample:
Write your character's first move or two, perhaps an entrance into a bar or a scene in a space vessel. You might even end up using this as your first move after acceptance.
Cut-and-paste one short series of moves from the boards, and write a move to follow them, either using the character you are submitting or taking up control of one of the current characters in that scene (which, of course, is forbidden in play, but this application is only to judge your writing ability). Please say where your cut-and-paste ends and your own writing begins.
The third option is open; provide whatever you like. But you are advised that picking one of the two above options will usually enhance your chances of striking the proper chord with The LatticeMaster.
Of course, you must write the sample yourself . If you have insufficient confidence in your writing, you will HATE playing in The LATTICE, so take heed!
