The Power Films
Any enterprise requires power; the Lattice Builders provided the energy needed to run their Worlds with two sets of generators that endlessly produce vast amounts of power.
160 kilometers from the center of each Lattice World (just inside the Core), mounted on the Pole Tunnels, are the Power Films. Eleven disks, 31 kilometers in diameter, make up each set of Power Films. Six are called, quite arbitrarily, the "positive" films (though at 270 meters thick, they can hardly be "film"), for they are constructed of material that exists in the physical Universe, and can be touched and maniplated -- indeed, they are made of none other than the ever-present iron foam that is the favorite of the Lattice Builders. Alternating between the six positive films, are the "negatives," called so because, in stark contrast to the positives, they do not exist in the physical Universe, and can neither be touched nor affected in way. That they can be seen at all is baffling, but they do indeed emit light in the lower end of the human-visible spectrum.
Any manipulation or disturbance of the positive films causes the Power Films to cease functioning -- in all cases, the negative films vanish from existence, and in some cases, they explode, causing horrendous destruction. The LWA long ago set aside certain Lattice Worlds for study of and experimentation on the Power Films, but gave up the projects when a complete lack of progress -- and the loss of those Worlds' Teegs! -- forced them to face the harsh reality that human science cannot break this barrier.
